The 2023-24 NBA season is fast approaching, and basketball fans are eager to see which teams will rise to the top and compete for the coveted title. This season preview looks at the favorites, underdogs, milestones, notable players and the season schedule.
Favorites
Several teams are emerging as favorites in the NBA due to their quality, depth and experience. Here are some of the early favorites for next season:
Brooklyn Nets: The Brooklyn Nets have a powerful offensive trio made up of Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving. This trio is complemented by a robust supporting cast that includes Blake Griffin, Joe Harris and Patty Mills. Their ability to stay fit and integrate on the court will be crucial to their success.
Los Angeles Lakers: Over the summer, the Los Angeles Lakers underwent significant changes, signing Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard and other exceptional players to form a team with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Their star-studded line-up has immense potential, but there are concerns about chemistry, defense and age.
Milwaukee Bucks: The defending champions kept their core, led by two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. In addition to Antetokounmpo, the team has Khris Middleton, Jrue Holiday, Brook Lopez and Bobby Portis, who have shown their ability to face challenges and shine in the playoffs.
Dark horses
The NBA is known for its unpredictability, and this season is no exception, with several underdog teams that could upset the favorites. Watch out for these underdogs:
Phoenix Suns: Last season’s finalists, the Phoenix Suns, kept most of their key players, including Chris Paul, Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton, Mikal Bridges and Jae Crowder. Additions such as Landry Shamet and JaVale McGee strengthen the cast. The Suns are a balanced team that can perform exceptionally well at both ends of the court.
Miami Heat: In the off-season, the Miami Heat acquired Kyle Lowry, P.J. Tucker and Markieff Morris, who now play alongside Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro. Their tireless movement and formidable defensive capabilities make them a team to watch.
Golden State Warriors: Led by Stephen Curry, the Warriors are recovering after two injury-plagued seasons. Klay Thompson’s expected return from an Achilles tendon injury significantly boosts his prospects. With the support of Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, James Wiseman and promising rookies, the Warriors are ready to make their mark once again.
