Bahia and Goiás faced off in a goal-fest, with Bahia coming out on top 6-4
In a breathtaking match at Serrinha, during the 26th round of the Brazilian Championship, Bahia triumphed over Goiás in a surprising 6-4 victory, setting a new record for goals in a single game this season. This spectacle surpassed the previous record, a 4-4 draw between Corinthians and Grêmio last month.
The match began with fireworks and Bahia quickly established their dominance. Everaldo opened the scoring in the 15th minute and, three minutes later, Gilberto scored a spectacular goal to increase Bahia’s lead. Goiás reacted, with Guilherme scoring in the 27th minute. Bahia were relentless, however, and Everaldo scored again just before the break.
The first half ended with a flurry of goals, including Guilherme’s penalty and Matheus Babi’s equalizer for Goiás. The score at half-time was 3-3, marking the highest-scoring first half of the Brasileirão season.
The second half continued in the same vein, with both teams keeping up the pace. João Magno gave Goiás the lead in the 49th minute, but Bahia responded quickly. Everaldo completed his hat-trick in the 52nd minute and, in the 55th minute, Rafael Ratão scored to put Bahia back in control. In the end, Biel scored another goal before the final whistle, securing Bahia’s 6-4 victory.
Bahia moved up to 16th place in the Campeonato Brasileiro standings with 28 points, easing their worries about relegation. Meanwhile, Goiás find themselves in the relegation zone, in 18th place with 27 points. The match will be remembered not only for the goalscoring spectacle, but also for the relentless entertainment.
Vasco and São Paulo draw goalless in São Januário
In a match marked by a lack of creativity, Vasco and São Paulo played out a goalless draw on Saturday at the São Januário stadium.
The first half saw little action, with both teams struggling for inspiration. It wasn’t until the 37th minute when Wellington Rato’s shot hit the crossbar. In the 42nd minute, São Paulo conceded a penalty, but Léo Jardim made a crucial save to deny Rato’s initial shot, and James was unable to convert the rebound. In stoppage time, Léo Jardim made another impressive save to thwart Lucas Moura’s attempt.
The second half began amid heavy rain in São Januário. Vasco created their first chance on six minutes when Pec’s shot hit the post, but Praxedes missed the rebound with goalkeeper Rafael down. Despite the improved weather, Vasco continued to threaten, with Rafael making important saves to thwart their efforts in the 22nd and 24th minutes. However, the contest ended without either team finding the back of the net.
The result was particularly disappointing for Vasco, a team still fighting relegation. Meanwhile, São Paulo, who secured the Copa do Brasil title and a place in the next edition of the Libertadores, seem to be moving around a lot in the competition. With the draw, Vasco reached 27 points, occupying 17th place in the standings. São Paulo, on the other hand, are in 10th place with 35 points.
Corinthians and Flamengo draw 1-1 in rainy game
In a hotly contested match amid heavy rain at the Arena Neo Química, Corinthians and Flamengo drew 1-1 in the 26th round of the Brazilian Championship. Both goals came in the second half, with Gerson opening the scoring for Flamengo with a spectacular long-range shot in the 54th minute and Fábio Santos equalizing for Corinthians from the penalty spot in the 79th minute.
The game began with Flamengo dominating and putting pressure on the Corinthians defense. In the 31st minute, Cássio blocked Lucas’ corner kick and then Everton Ribeiro hit the crossbar. Gerson’s goal, a perfect shot into the corner of the net, put the visitors ahead.
Corinthians responded to the deficit with a more aggressive approach in the second half. Their efforts paid off when they were awarded a penalty, which Fábio Santos confidently converted to level the score. In the 94th minute, Youri Alberto could have given Corinthians the win, but his shot hit the post slightly.
With the result, Corinthians climbed to 13th place in the Campeonato Brasileiro standings with 31 points, while Flamengo remained in fifth place with 44 points. The match was marked not only by the contest between the two teams, but also by the challenging weather conditions, with heavy rain affecting the progress of the game and the state of the pitch.
