Carlo Ancelotti continues to be linked to the Brazilian national soccer team, and the president of the Brazilian Football Confederation, Ednaldo Rodrigues, is optimistic of getting a positive response from the Italian before the deadline set by the national team, which is May 25. The critical point is that the deadline is well before Real Madrid’s last match of the current campaign.
After a disappointing campaign at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Tite stepped down as Brazil coach and they have not appointed a full-time coach since, however, they have continued to pursue Ancelotti, who has insisted that he expects to honor his current deal with Madrid, which runs until the end of next season.
Despite this, CBF president Rodrigues recently spoke to local media and gave an update that he hopes to have more clarity before the May 25 deadline. Real Madrid’s last La Liga match will be played on June 4 against Athletic Club.
So the 63-year-old should finish the campaign even if he changes his mind and Ancelotti decides to take over from the Brazilian at the end of the season.
“The situation is progressing. We’re trying to have a clearer position before May 25, the date set for the next national team call-ups“, revealed Rodrigues, in an interview with local media in Brazil.
Real Madrid have struggled with inconsistency in La Liga this season, with questions over Ancelotti’s future as they sit 11 points behind leaders Barcelona. While their El Clasico rivals look set to take the league title this season, Real have the Copa del Rey title and the Champions League in their sights. Much will depend on how they do against Manchester City, if Real Madrid win the UCL semi-final and claim their 15th continental title, along with the Copa del Rey, then Ancelotti can continue in charge, otherwise his position could be in jeopardy.
Should the former Everton manager’s second spell in the Spanish capital come to an end, he will gladly take over as Brazil coach sooner rather than later.
