Bart Stevens and Tallon Griekspoor pulled off a remarkable comeback in the last 16 of the men’s doubles at Wimbledon, beating 16th-ranked Australian-Brazilian pair John Peers and Marcelo Melo. The Dutch pair showed their skills and determination, winning in straight sets with a score of 7-5 and 6-4.
Both teams showed their ability on the serve, with Stevens and Griekspoor hitting eight aces compared to Peers and Melo’s four. While the Australian-Brazilian pair committed three double faults, the Dutch pair remained error-free in this regard. Stevens and Griekspoor had a slightly lower first serve percentage, but made up for it with an impressive winning percentage on both first and second serves.
Break point opportunities played a crucial role, with Stevens and Griekspoor converting two of six chances, while Peers and Melo failed to convert any of their chances. In terms of reception points, the Dutch duo outclassed their opponents, winning 22 compared to Peers and Melo’s 13.
In total, Stevens and Griekspoor accumulated 67 points, beating Peers and Melo’s 57. They secured 13 games during the match, including a maximum run of three consecutive games won. In addition, Stevens and Griekspoor won 45 service points, slightly more than Peers and Melo’s 44. The Dutch pair also won 11 service games, two more than their opponents.
In the quarter-finals of the women’s doubles at Wimbledon, Taiwanese-Czech pair Hsieh Su-wei and Barbora Strýcová put in an impressive performance to beat Brazilian-French duo Luisa Stefani and Caroline Garcia. Hsieh and Strýcová won 7-6 and 6-4 in straight sets.
Stefani and Garcia started the match strongly, hitting four aces and committing just one double fault. However, Hsieh and Strýcová showed their resilience and experience, with Strýcová’s solid first serve percentage and Hsieh’s exceptional return game proving to be key factors in their success.
Break points played a crucial role in the match, and Hsieh and Strýcová converted three of four opportunities, while Stefani and Garcia failed to convert either of their two chances. The Taiwanese and Czech duo also outperformed their opponents in terms of reception points won, with 28 points compared to Stefani and Garcia’s 18.
In total, Hsieh and Strýcová accumulated 69 points, beating Stefani and Garcia’s 57. They secured 13 games during the match, including a maximum sequence of three consecutive games won. In addition, Hsieh and Strýcová won 41 service points, slightly beating Stefani and Garcia’s 39. The Taiwanese and Czech duo also came out victorious in nine service games.
