Rangers Still Miles Off the Standard Required
I might be in the minority here, but I’ll say it plainly – this Rangers side simply isn’t good enough right now. Too many players are underperforming, and that includes some who were supposed to be our difference-makers. Yes, I’m talking about Raskin as well. For all the talk about progress and new direction, we still look miles away from where we need to be. The team lacks rhythm, cohesion, and belief. When the pressure’s on, especially in the big games, it’s panic football – heads drop, passes go astray, and the back line loses all sense of shape.
Defensive Disarray
Let’s start at the back. The defence is all over the place. There’s no real understanding between players, and it shows. They don’t seem to trust one another – every misplaced pass or poor clearance seems to trigger panic. That lack of chemistry means there’s no stability, no confidence, and no safety net when things go wrong. This is the sort of thing that separates title contenders from also-rans. You can’t build a winning side when your defenders play like strangers every other weekend.
Midfield: Inconsistent and Unsettled
The midfield has chopped and changed far too often, and it’s still not convincing. Honestly, if respectable bids came in for Raskin or Dio, I’d take them. They’ve both had enough time to show they can dominate the Scottish Premiership, but neither has delivered consistent performances.
Barron is worth keeping – he’s young, energetic, and still developing. Cameron too, probably deserves more chances. Rothwell clearly has ability, but something’s not clicking, maybe fitness, maybe confidence. Bajrami is a strange one; I don’t think he’s ever been deployed properly to bring out his strengths. As for Rice and Curtis, I just don’t see them making the grade here. Right now, our midfield looks lightweight, short of bite, and without consistency – a recipe for mediocrity.
Forwards: No Edge, No Fear
Up front, the situation isn’t much better. Antman’s debut was overhyped – he ran hard, pressed well, but did little of real substance and hasn’t impressed since. Danilo has technical ability, but he’s not consistent enough and lacks physical strength. I had high hopes for Chermiti, but he’s been a disappointment so far – timid, easily bullied, and nowhere near the finisher we need. Miovski looks past his best and should never have been a target. Asgaard and Gassama both have talent, but without quality service or structure, their impact is limited.
Time for Ruthless Decisions
The reality is we still don’t have a settled ‘best eleven.’ There’s no spine, no continuity, and no one stepping up to lead. If Rangers seriously want to challenge Celtic over a full season, this squad needs surgery – not just tweaks. Two or three real signings in January are essential, or we’ll be heading for another season of frustration and what-ifs. It’s time for some hard truths at Ibrox. Too many passengers, not enough fighters. The club deserves better – and the fans certainly do.
