Is Ruben Amorim at risk? Has he lost the dressing room?
Before I go on, congratulations to Grimsby – their hard work, disciplined approach and relentless will of a plucky minnow made them very deserving winners. ðŸ‘ðŸ‘ðŸ‘
Now, back to Amorim. The two worst performers for us last night, imo, were Onana and Ugarte. While they were both signed before his arrival, there was some food to the thought of them working out under his rule – Onana from the similar system at Inter and Ugarte from direct familiarity.
However, they have both turned out to be nowhere near the quality required for this club to get back into the upper echelon of European football. So we have a quandary.
Do we want to see Amorim go and be left with the spiteful remnants of a toxic culture he’s not yet finished removing – thus presenting an immediately disruptive issue for a new coach who’s obviously not sufficiently wired into the whats, whos and whys?
Or do we stick with the guy and suffer a system that clearly isn’t working out, one that exposes the fragility of a player like Ugarte who has just been done like a kipper by League 2 midfielders?
A while ago, I thought Onana deserved more time to show himself – I’ve had enough of seeing his calamities now – be gone, fool. With Ugarte, I like the tenacity and bite, but I’m seeing little more than that – as much Roy Walker (It’s good, but it’s not right) as Roy Keane.
I was also interested to see if there’s a chance the 3-4-3 would work out – now I know it won’t. So, for me, regrettably, I’ve reached the point now where I don’t know which of the two worrying scenarios I’d prefer.
I mean, if Amorim was willing to adapt to at least the 3-5-2 and address the midfield weakness that everyone can see, I’d be more positive, but that’s probably not happening.
I’m struggling atm. I’m struggling to see how Amorim and his rigid insistence for the 3-4-3 rides this out. I was happy to see the new attackers arrive, but it’s taken until our third game of the season against Grimsby for one of them to score. I’m struggling to see reasons for Mainoo to stay. I’m struggling to see a positive platform for him and other youngsters to step into and thrive.
I’m generally a positive chap, but the body of my positivity relating to United is being hollowed out by the rot that still shows no sign of slowing. I love my club as much as all of you, but, even if I might disagree with some of the things said on here, I can fully relate to the frustration that winds people up.
My word are we a mess. I have a couple of friends who are Spurs fans and they’re calling us Spursy – I have no retort, I’ve got nothing.
Spursy! What’s happening?
