In a bid to strengthen their midfield for next season, Palmeiras have rekindled their interest in 24-year-old Argentine midfielder Aníbal Moreno, who currently plays for Racing Club. This renewed search comes after a mid-year transfer deal was blocked due to Racing Club’s initial demand of US$10 million (equivalent to R$50.6 million) for the talented young player. In order to reach a favorable agreement, negotiations this time seem to be focused on securing the player’s services for a more affordable price.
Palmeiras, led by coach Abel Ferreira, have been actively looking for a reliable midfielder to bolster their squad. In their quest to solidify the team’s midfield, the club narrowed down their options to two promising talents: Aníbal Moreno, from Racing, and Santiago Hezze, who belonged to Huracán and was transferred to Greek club Olympiakos in the middle of the year. Abel Ferreira has shown a preference for Aníbal Moreno, who is seen as a valuable addition to the squad that aims to perform at a high level.
However, the Palmeiras board are keen to secure the transfer without blowing their budget. Although the club’s exact financial parameters have not been officially disclosed, there are reports that they are reluctant to pay more than US$7 million for the midfielder. Negotiations are ongoing, and the final figures for the deal have not yet been confirmed by the Palmeiras hierarchy.
In addition, Leila Pereira, a prominent figure within the club, expressed the club’s ambitions to secure three to four reinforcements for next season. This suggests that the search for Aníbal Moreno is part of a wider strategy to strengthen Palmeiras for future challenges. As the transfer window unfolds, fans are anxiously awaiting the outcome of these negotiations, which could significantly affect the club’s performance next season.
