The incident involving a bag of popcorn thrown at Neymar after the match between Brazil and Venezuela in Cuiabá last Thursday continues to generate debate, with conflicting reports about the star’s reaction. Initially, it was suggested that an angry Neymar had cursed the president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Ednaldo Rodrigues, and even threatened not to take part in the next match against Uruguay. However, a different perspective emerged during a recent episode of “Domingo com Benja”.
Emerson Sheik, a prominent commentator, provided an alternative version of events. “I’m going to say this with a lot of propriety: it didn’t happen. At least not like that, he didn’t say that,” said Sheik emphatically. “There was a complaint from him; he had already complained on the pitch when he was hit, naturally. But this information about having verbally assaulted the president of the CBF is not true.“
This new revelation challenges previous reports and suggests that Neymar’s reaction may not have been as intense as initially suggested. Despite the controversy, Neymar joined the Brazilian national team in Montevideo, where they will face Uruguay on Tuesday, with indications that he will be included as a starter under the guidance of coach Fernando Diniz.
The incident with the bag of popcorn initially raised questions about the safety and behavior of fans during soccer matches, but the focus has now shifted to the conflicting reports about Neymar’s reaction. As the Brazilian national team continues its journey through the South American qualifiers, it remains to be seen how this controversy will affect Neymar and his performance on the pitch.
