Arthur, the 27-year-old midfielder, is going through a career renaissance, firmly believing that he is at the peak of his footballing journey. After a challenging period marked by injuries and a season without playing in the Premier League with Liverpool, the former Barcelona and Juventus player has found a new home at Fiorentina, where he is determined to regain his place in the Brazilian national team.
After facing the disappointment of missing out on the 2022 World Cup due to loss of form and injury, Arthur has set his sights on making a strong return to the international stage this season. To that end, he made a strategic move to join Fiorentina, under the guidance of coach Vincenzo Italiano. On loan from Juventus to the Viola until June 2024, Arthur spoke about his decision, saying: “Perhaps the main reason for my choice of Fiorentina was the connection with Vincenzo Italiano. After our conversation, I was convinced that this was the right place for me.”
His performance at Fiorentina has been incredible, with Arthur playing in all 12 games this season, nine of which as a starter. He clearly has the best long passing efficiency of any player in Europe’s top five leagues, which earned him recognition on the cover of Italy’s Corriere dello Sport newspaper. Pain-free and exuding confidence, Arthur believes he is at the peak of his career.
Reflecting on his journey, he said: “Today I feel more complete. Always. I think I’m at the peak of my career. I learned a lot“. He attributed his new-found physical prowess to his experiences in three different leagues, including La Liga, Serie A and the Premier League, explaining: “Soccer is very dynamic; you have to be in top physical shape. So, for me, this is the best phase of my career. I feel more prepared and ready“.
Despite receiving offers from Brazilian clubs during the last transfer window, including interest from Fluminense, Arthur reiterated that his priority has always been to remain in European soccer. His determination and success at Fiorentina suggest the midfielder’s unwavering quest for a return to the Brazilian national team, and he looks set to make his mark in this crucial chapter of his career.
