Miles Bridges of the Charlotte Hornets received a criminal summons on Wednesday, which is a worrying fact. According to a spokeswoman for the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, the allegations include breach of a domestic violence protection agreement, child abuse and damage to personal property.
Bridges also has an outstanding arrest warrant dating back to January 2 for the same offense of violating a domestic violence protective order. However, as of Wednesday evening, neither the warrant nor the summons had been served.
In reaction to the latest accusations, the Charlotte Hornets issued a statement saying:“We are aware of the situation and are gathering more information“.
This alarming occurrence comes after Bridges pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor domestic violence charge in November. In the previous instance, he accepted a three-year trial instead of prison as part of a deal with prosecutors. The charge arose from an accusation that he assaulted his then-girlfriend in front of their two children in May 2022. Bridges’ plea of no contest showed that he accepted the verdict and its implications without formally admitting guilt.
Bridges agreed to comply with the provisions of a 10-year protection order, which obliged him to stay 100 meters away and have no contact with the lady involved in the case. He also had to undergo 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling, 52 weeks of parent education, 100 hours of community service and weekly drug tests. He was also banned from possessing any firearms, ammunition or weapons, according to the terms of the agreement.
According to the case statement in Mecklenburg District Court, the recent cases that led to the issuance of the criminal summons happened on Tuesday and involved the same lady.
Bridges was suspended for 30 games without pay by the NBA in April, 20 of which had already been served during the previous season. Bridges, who had signed a one-year, $7.9 million qualifying offer to return to the Vespid in July, will miss the first ten games of the upcoming regular season as a result of this suspension. Bridges didn’t take part in pre-season either.
Bridges expressed regret in his first public comments on the matter in July, after his suspension, stating:“I want to apologize to everyone for the pain and shame I have caused everyone, especially my family.”
