LeBron-James said on Monday that he will dedicate his 21st season in the league to his eldest son, Bronny-James, in a moving statement. This choice was made after a terrible health crisis that deeply shocked the James family.
LeBron-James, 38, momentarily considered retiring from professional basketball at the end of last season, after the Los Angeles Lakers’ devastating loss to the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference finals. However, those thoughts of retirement were short-lived, and James is gearing up for what could be an incredible season in his illustrious career, culminating in his fifth NBA championship ring.
Bronny-James’ health scare was the impetus for his new commitment to the sport. During a training session with his college basketball team in Los Angeles in July, the young basketball prodigy suffered a sudden heart attack. This terrible episode consequently had a major influence on LeBron, who spoke passionately about it at the Lakers’ training facility in El Segundo.
“Nothing else matters but my family,” LeBron James told a room full of journalists. “Obviously, because of the incident, I’m going to dedicate this season to Bronny. Understanding this simply puts everything into context. Whatever happens, the only thing that matters is your family. Witnessing what he’s been through in recent months has been very difficult. I can only imagine how difficult it has been for him, as it has been for me and our family.“
Bronny, according to James, is now “doing extremely well” and plans to play college basketball at the University of Southern California this season. This encouraging development encouraged LeBron to give his all on the court next season, motivated by his love and devotion to his family, especially his son Bronny.
