The National Basketball Association (NBA) recently sanctioned free agent Joshua Primo for four games without pay, starting immediately. After a comprehensive investigation, the league determined that Primo had engaged in conduct detrimental to the NBA.
Primo was found to have behaved inappropriately and insultingly, even exposing himself to the girls, according to the examination. This episode had serious consequences for the young athlete, who was in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
Primo’s problems began on October 31, when the San Antonio Spurs canceled his contract due to accusations made by the team’s former sports psychologist. She claimed that Primo had repeatedly exposed himself to her, which led her to sue Primo and the Spurs. The case ended up being settled out of court.
In reaction to the league’s decision, the NBA stated that although Primo claimed his actions were inadvertent, they could not ignore his unacceptable behavior. Although there was no proof of future inappropriate behavior beyond these occurrences, the league considered that Primo’s actions violated its rules, justifying disciplinary action.
At just 20 years old, Primo’s future in the NBA is undetermined. He will serve his four-game ban if he signs with another organization. Given the serious charges against him, it remains to be seen whether any organization will be willing to take a chance on him.
Primo spoke about his mental health difficulties after being released by the Spurs, indicating that he was undergoing therapy to deal with previous traumas. During this time, he expressed a desire to focus on his mental health treatment and to share his experiences to help others who have suffered similar problems.
Primo played 54 games, 16 of them as a starter in the NBA, and averaged 5.9 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists. He was selected by the Spurs with the 12th overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft out of the University of Alabama.
It should be noted that Primo was accused of sexual assault by women who worked for Spurs in October 2022. Primo angrily rejected the allegations, but they probably damaged his professional chances.
