Tottenham – Liverpool – 2:1
This game had everything: Luis Diaz had a goal disallowed for offside by the VAR when it should have been upheld, the PGMOL was forced to release a statement admitting that there had been “significant human error”. Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones were sent off and Joel Matip scored a very late own goal to further complicate Liverpool’s situation.
Shortly after Diaz had his shot disallowed, Son Heung-min scored at the other end, taking a pass from Brazilian midfielder Richarlison to make it 1-0. Jones had already received a yellow card earlier for his foul on Yves Bissouma, but the VAR intervened and Jones was shown the red. Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker made many world-class saves to keep his team in the game.
To make matters worse, Cody Gakpo was injured when he scored the equalizer for Jurgen Klopp’s side. Jota hit a cutback on Destiny Udogie and, minutes later, a second clumsy challenge left the Reds nine players short. Pedro Porro’s cross in stoppage time was deflected into his own net by Matip, ending a day full of horrors for the visitors.
Brazilian striker Richarlison provided an assist as he completed the entire game, and his countryman Alisson made many saves as he also played the full ninety minutes.
Bournemouth – Arsenal – 0:4
Arsenal traveled to the Vitality Stadium and Mikel Arteta’s team did very well, scoring four goals, with Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz and Ben White, all in a very well played match for the Gunners.
Brazilian goalkeeper Neto had an average game, was present for the entire ninety minutes and made few interventions to prevent the score from getting worse. Gabriel was solid in defense and completed the entire contest to round off an impressive display, as did Gabriel Jesus, who was unlucky not to score.
Misery for Manchester clubs
Manchester United-Crystal Palace – 0:1
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United dropped to tenth place in the league after a 0-1 defeat to Crystal Palace. Rasmus Højlund came close to opening the scoring, but saw his shot cleared off the line, before Palace opened the scoring with a volley from Joachim Andersen. Bruno Fernandes had a shot on goal saved by Sam Johnstone, before the latter made a smart save from a Rasmus header. Palace managed to withstand the onslaught of their opponents and avenge their defeat in the League Cup.
Brazilian midfielder Casemiro played the whole match, but was unable to influence the course of the game – his shots were inaccurate.
Wolverhampton – Man City – 2:1
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City suffered a rare slip-up when they lost 1-2 to Wolves. Ruben Diaz’s own goal gave the hosts the perfect start, before Julian Alvarez scored a free-kick for his side.
Hwang Hee-chan scored a brilliant goal to secure the three points and, although City tried hard, they couldn’t draw the game.
Brazilian midfielder João Gomes put in a promising performance, showed glimpses of his potential and was substituted in the 67th minute. Matheus Cunha provided the assist for Hwang’s winning goal and was a tireless presser, being substituted in the 86th minute. Matheus Nunes was booed on his return to Molineux, played a miserable game and was substituted at half-time.
