São Paulo FC won a historic victory in the Copa do Brasil final against Flamengo, not only securing an unprecedented title, but also generating a substantial R$19,964,340.62 in revenue from the thrilling second leg at the Morumbi last Sunday. The match attracted a large crowd of 63,077 passionate fans.
According to official documents released by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), São Paulo’s gross income from the match was R$24,520,800.00. However, expenses for the high-risk duel totaled R$4,556,459.38.
This windfall of almost R$20 million represents a historic milestone for the club, which plans to allocate the funds to paying off some of its debts and strengthening its financial stability. In addition to this impressive income, São Paulo pocketed a further R$70 million for winning the Copa do Brasil.
The electrifying match not only brought financial success, but also witnessed a record attendance, marking the biggest crowd at the Morumbi in the last eight years, second only to the 2015 Libertadores match against Cruzeiro, which saw 66,369 spectators.
Throughout 2023, São Paulo’s matches have always attracted sizable crowds. Notable matches include the semi-final against Corinthians in the Copa do Brasil, with 62,093 fans in attendance, and the clashes with rivals such as Santos, Vasco and Palmeiras, demonstrating the unwavering support of their dedicated fans.
The club’s management sees this triumph as a crucial moment, not only in terms of success on the pitch, but also in strengthening its financial situation, setting the stage for a promising future.
