At a time when reports suggested unrest in the Manchester United dressing room, manager Erik Ten Hag dismissed any talk of a split in the dressing room, firmly stating that everyone at the club was “united”. Ten Hag agreed that the recent results had created a sense of sadness in the team, but nevertheless continued to work towards the reconstruction that was started at the beginning of his tenure with Manchester United.
“I know it’s not always just uphill. You will have your faults and you can grow stronger from them, as long as you stick together. That’s what we’re doing in the dressing room, with the whole team and the coaches. Everyone is united and in United you fight.“
The Dutchman reinforced his team with a series of signings, bringing in André Onana from Inter Milan, with whom he had previously worked at Ajax. Manchester United also signed Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund, before struggling at the end of the transfer window to finalize the loan contracts of Sergio Reguilon and Sofyan Amrabat. However, the problems involving Jadon Sancho and Antony only came to light after the window, leaving Ten Hag with a reduced squad and complaints about the team’s attitude.
“What matters is the team and, as a team, we’re not getting results. People haven’t performed as well as they should and it’s not just one player, but others, including the coach. It’s about 11 players doing their job. We attack with 11 and defend with 11, so when one or two don’t do their job, everything goes downhill.“
