The Santos board is interested in signing Fábio Carille, the current coach of V-Varen Nagasaki in Japan. The club is willing to pay a buy-out clause of 1.5 million dollars (approximately R$7.2 million) and offer the Brazilian coach a substantial salary. The proposed agreement would run until the end of 2024, extending beyond the term of the current president, Andrés Rueda, which ends in December 2023.
According to reports, Carille is aware of the negotiations and is inclined to accept Santos’ offer. The Japanese club has not yet been officially notified, but if Santos pays the full purchase price, the Asian team will not be able to prevent the coach from leaving.
Carille, who won the Brazilian championship with Corinthians in 2017, had a spell with Santos in 2021 and 2022. In his first year under contract, he was responsible for keeping Santos away from relegation in the Brazilian Championship. However, poor results at the start of the following season and a turbulent relationship with Edu Dracena, who was the director of soccer at the time, led to his dismissal. If the appointment is confirmed, Fábio Carille will become Santos’ fourth coach this season. So far, in 2023, Odair Hellmann, Paulo Turra and Diego Aguirre have managed the team.
One of the highest-ranking clubs in Brazilian soccer, Santos have fallen into the relegation zone in the first division of the Brazilian Championship. Santos, which has former players of the stature of Pelé, considered one of the greatest players of all time, and Neymar, one of the biggest stars in world soccer, definitely needs to put things in order, as it is going through a period of serious problems. They hope that the change of coach will start them on the road to recovery.
