Paris Saint-Germain hosted Nice at the Parc des Princes on Friday evening for the resumption of Ligue 1 after the international break, but suffered a 3-2 home defeat. Kylian Mbappe was wearing the armband and the Frenchman scored twice, but two goals from Terem Moffi and a second-half strike from Gaetan Laborde were enough for the visitors to steal three precious points.
Brazilian veteran Dante captained Nice and was solid throughout the match. Marquinhos, who led Brazil to victory over Peru (1-0), remained in PSG’s reserves. The win kept Nice one point ahead of PSG in second place, while the defending champions dropped to third.
Terem Moffi had an early sight of goal, but his shot was saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma. However, a questionable save led to the opening goal, when Moffi’s shot was deflected into the PSG goal by Lucas Hernandez.
Kephren Thuram almost scored the second goal with a long-range shot from outside the area, but PSG’s number one couldn’t prevent it. Mbappe pulled one back for his team with a fierce shot from the edge of the box, Achraf Hakimi deflected and Kylian did the rest. Both teams missed crucial chances, Ousmane Dembele and Sofiane Diop were unwise in front of goal and the score was 1-1 at half-time.
Shortly after the break, Nice took the lead again, with Moffi beating his marker and putting the ball on the tray for Laborde to finish and put Francesco Farioli’s men in the lead.
Donnarumma made a great save to prevent PSG falling further behind when he saved Diop’s shot, but the Italian could do nothing when Moffi shot the ball from the edge of the box and once again the PSG defenders couldn’t keep up with the Nice striker – 1-3.
PSG scored a goal to save the game when Randal Kolo Muani’s cross was finished emphatically by Mbappe in the middle of the goal. Evann Guessand could have scored Nice’s fourth goal, but Donnarumma made an important save to prevent his team’s embarrassment.
