The Golden State Warriors faced the Sacramento Kings in the first round of the NBA playoffs on Saturday night. The Warriors lost the game, but Draymond Green made history by becoming the 21st player in NBA postseason history to have more than 900 assists in his career. Before the game, he had 892 assists in the post-season and added 11 more to bring his career total to 903.
During the regular season, the former Michigan State standout averaged 6.8 assists per game. With his 11 assists on Saturday, he is just three assists away from overtaking Mark Jackson (905) for 20th all-time in post-season assists.
Despite Green’s four points, nine rebounds, two steals and a block, the Warriors fell 126-123. The club is currently down in the series and will play Game 2 on Monday night in Sacramento.
This year’s Warriors had an up-and-down season, finishing as the sixth seed with a 44-38 record. They struggled on the road, finishing 11-30 in 41 games away from the Chase Center in San Francisco. They are currently 11-31 away from home this season, including the setback on Saturday.
Green is in his 11th season in the NBA and has played his entire career with the Warriors. He is a four-time NBA All-Star and one of the greatest stars in NBA history. Green’s contributions to the club helped the Warriors win four titles and reach the NBA Finals six times in the previous eight seasons.
In the future, the Warriors will need Green to maintain his game if they want to make a comeback in the playoffs. His ability to generate opportunities on the floor and set up teammates for easy baskets will be key to the team’s success. Green’s milestone demonstrates once again that he is an important player for the Warriors and a post-season force to be reckoned with.
Green is known for his defensive qualities as well as his playing ability. He was awarded NBA Defensive Player of the Year three times and chosen for the NBA All-Defensive First Team five times. His talents on both ends of the court make him an important member of the Warriors and one of the best players in the league.
