The Brazilian players secured an unexpected victory over Germany on Tuesday in Nuremberg thanks to goals from Tamires and Ary. Both goals came in the first half, with Tamires netting in the 11th minute and Ary scoring in the 37th minute. Although Germany managed to score a late goal through Jule Brand, it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit as Brazil held on for the win.
Brazil played this match immediately after losing to England on penalties in the Final at Wembley on Thursday, while Germany came into the game after a dominant 1-0 win over the Netherlands on Friday.
The match also saw former Germany captain Dzsenifer Marozsan bid farewell to her career in international soccer. Marozsan made his 112th appearance for the team during the second half of the match, after suffering a serious knee injury last year.
In other results, Australia beat England 2-0 in London, while Canada suffered a 2-1 defeat to France in Le Mans. Four-time world champions USA secured a 1-0 win over Ireland in St. Louis, while Italy won 2-1 against Colombia in Rome.
Japan faced a 1-0 defeat against Denmark in Odense, while Spain won 1-0 against China in Ibiza. Sweden and Norway drew 3-3 and Portugal drew 1-1 with Wales. Scotland dominated Costa Rica with a 4-0 win in Glasgow, while Romania secured a 1-0 victory over Morocco in Bucharest. However, New Zealand suffered a 3-0 defeat to Nigeria in Turkey.
The World Cup is just three months away, scheduled to begin on July 20 in Australia and New Zealand. The defending champions, the USA, will take part in the event, and the opening match will be between Norway and New Zealand, while Australia will face Ireland on the same day.
Brazil, five-time world champions in the men’s edition of the World Cup, have yet to win the title in the women’s edition. However, under Swedish boss Pia Sundhage, they have made tremendous progress and are currently the Copa America champions. The South Americans will start in a group against Panama (July 24), then face France (July 29) and Jamaica (August 2).
