After the defeat to Flamengo, Botafogo’s owner wasted no time and used his social networks to criticize the referees responsible for the game, especially the main referee, Raphael Claus. In the words of John Textor, their performance was “disgraceful”.
The Glorioso manager chose to post a photo of the referee as a ‘Story’ on his Instagram along with the phrase in English: “Everyone saw it… and so did you… Shameful”. Less than 10 hours later, he deleted the post.
The businessman’s complaint was specifically related to a foul that occurred when Flamengo player Wesley fouled Tchê Tchê, leading to the Mengão’s decisive goal. Up to that point, the game was tied at 1-1, but it was Bruno Henrique who secured victory for the Mais Querido with this penalty in the 73rd minute.
The defeat to Flamengo at Nilton Santos ended the team’s unbeaten run at home in the 2023 Campeonato Brasileiro. This harsh result marked Botafogo’s second disappointment this week. The team was eliminated from the Copa Sudamericana on Wednesday, August 30, after losing to Argentine club Defensa y Justicia.
Flamengo’s next game is scheduled for 11 days from now, due to the break in the calendar for the FIFA international break. On Wednesday, September 13, Rubro-Negro Carioca will face Athletico-PR at 9:30 p.m. Brasília time. The match will take place at the Kleber José de Andrade Stadium in Cariacica, Espírito Santo, and will be part of the 23rd round of the Brazilian Championship.
