In a memorable event that marks the start of a new era for Atlético-MG, the soccer club is ready to take its first step on the MRV Arena pitch this Sunday, the 27th. The opening match against Santos in the Campeonato Brasileiro means not only the start of a new chapter, but also a heartfelt tribute to the club’s historic past in Mineirão. The MRV Arena is a beacon of the future, while the club maintains a deep respect and reverence for the stage that has witnessed its greatest glories to date.
A moving tribute will be paid to legendary striker Reinaldo, Atlético-MG’s all-time top scorer with an impressive 157 goals. Reinaldo, an icon of the club’s history, will perform a symbolic kick from the Mineirão, where he once delighted the fans, launching the ball on a journey of more than 10 km, symbolizing the transition from the old to the new. “Mineirão is the heart of Minas Gerais soccer. It’s an honor to launch this ball in our new home, the MRV Arena,” said Reinaldo, proud to wear the shirt commemorating the 50th anniversary of his debut for the team in 1973.
The moment is part of the Legendary Edition project, supported by MM Car Rental, and is proof of the close partnership between Mineirão and Arena MRV during this phase of transformation. The spectacle of the kick-off will be shown on the colossal screens of the MRV Arena, with the ball being handed over to referee Rafael Klein in CBF protocol to officially start the match.
While the Mineirão was Atlético-MG’s home for almost 58 illustrious years, hosting landmark matches and monumental victories, the torch is now being passed on to the MRV Arena, as the club moves forward, fueled by history and dreams of future glory.
