Last-minute goal secures victory for Palmeiras against Cruzeiro
Palmeiras won 1-0 against Cruzeiro in a tense match on matchday 19 of the Brasileirão. In a match that remained goalless until the final moments, the dramatic turnaround came in the 50th minute. Flaco López, in a baffling turn of events, deflected Raphael Veiga’s cross into the back of the net to secure a late victory for Palmeiras.
The match saw a good number of chances for both sides. Palmeiras’ William came close to opening the scoring in the 28th minute with a powerful shot, but Marcelo Lomba saved just in time. Raphael Veiga also threatened Palmeiras, but Cruzeiro goalkeeper Rafael Cabral stood firm to keep the score level.
The first half ended in a draw, reflecting the balance between the two teams. Despite Palmeiras having more possession, Cruzeiro managed to create more dangerous chances. A missed chance by Wesley in the second half kept the game on a knife edge.
The final drama unfolded in the last few moments, when Flaco López’s unexpected deflection found the net, securing three crucial points for Palmeiras. The win moved Palmeiras up to second place in the league standings with 34 points, while Cruzeiro continued their struggles with their fifth consecutive game without a win. Palmeiras will face Cuiabá in their next game, while Cruzeiro will play Corinthians.
Red Bull Bragantino and Vasco draw 1-1
Red Bull Bragantino and Vasco drew 1-1 on Monday night in the 19th round of the Brasileirão, leaving fans on the edge of their seats. The match saw Pablo Vegetti shine for Vasco, scoring from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute. Despite a brief scare, Gustavinho managed to level the score for Bragantino just before half-time, showing off his attacking skills.
The game began with a penalty decision after a VAR review, with Vegetti calmly slipping the ball past Cleiton to secure his second goal in as many games for Vasco. However, the first half wasn’t short of excitement as Gustavinho, from Bragantino, restored equality with a fine goal just before the break, putting his side back in contention.
As the game progressed, Bragantino seemed determined to clinch victory with a flurry of shots, but Vasco’s defense stood firm, limiting the host’s opportunities. Vasco, on the other hand, looked lacklustre in the second half, struggling to make an impact up front. On 55-56 minutes, the two coaches brought on three new players at once.
The result leaves Bragantino in fifth place with 32 points, while Vasco remain in 19th place with 13 points. The draw is valuable for Vasco in their bid to climb out of the relegation zone, and they will be looking to carry that momentum into their next game against Atlético. Meanwhile, Bragantino’s fight for a higher position continues, as they prepare to face Bahia in Salvador in search of a good result in the Brazilian Championship.
