Spanish giants Barcelona have decided to turn their attention to Manchester City defender João Cancelo as part of their project under Xavi Hernández, as the club look to negotiate with the Champions League winners to bring in the Portuguese full-back. Cancelo is believed to be out of legendary coach Pep Guardiola’s plans after an alleged disagreement between the two, a saga that culminated in Cancelo going to German side Bayern Munich on a loan deal at the end of the January transfer window.
Cancelo had an impressive spell at Bayern, scoring one goal and providing six assists for the Bavarians in his short time there. However, despite his performance, Bayern decided not to exercise their option to buy Cancelo, nor did they even negotiate a reduced fee with the Cityzens, perhaps due to the changes in their own board.
In any case, Barcelona, who are in a position of well-documented financial difficulties, will only be able to go after the 29-year-old if French winger Ousmane Dembele leaves for Paris Saint-Germain. On July 30, it was reported that Dembele had agreed terms with Paris Saint-Germain, in a surprising development as the French champions tried to capitalize on the player’s reduced release clause, which was only activated in July.
However, although an official communication was sent to Barcelona, the deal could not be completed in time, but it is known that the parties are working together to reach a solution. What’s more, Barcelona have a very strong attack, which means they’re not opposed to the idea of selling the striker, who was in excellent form last season.
Elsewhere, Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur are involved in negotiations over the transfer of Harry Kane. The Englishman is determined to leave the London club, and now it seems that the two clubs have reached some sort of consensus on the final transfer fee, which is rumored to be in the region of US$110 million. Although it’s not certain that Spurs will accept the offer, given their past reputation, Bayern remain confident, especially after selling Sadio Mane to Al-Nassr.
