Mogi das Cruzes Basketball announced on Friday (28) that famous wing Shamell Stallworth will return to the team for the upcoming 2023/24 season, after a four-year sabbatical. Shamell’s return delighted the fans, and his reunion with other players, Lucas Lacerda and Guilherme Lessa, who also extended their contracts, guarantees a powerful team. The acquisitions of Vinicius Pastor, Lupa, Lukas Josuel, Colina and coach Fernando Penna have further strengthened the team.
Shamell will begin his sixth season defending the colors of Mogiana with an incredible record as the highest scorer in the history of Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB), with an incredible 8,406 points. In his previous stint with the club, he won the Paulista Champion and South American Champion titles in 2016, as well as being runner-up in the Americas League and the NBB in 2018.
The 1.95m American wing, who also has Brazilian citizenship, spent last season with São Paulo and has played for Limeira and Pinheiros. Shamell also demonstrated his skills as an All-Star Game participant on 12 occasions.
Shamell averaged 17.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and a fantastic efficiency rating of 16.2 during his spectacular career in the league. Notably, he set personal records in individual games during the tournament with 40 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, confirming his credentials as a true basketball maestro.
As the team prepares to return to the national basketball scene after a year away, Shamell’s first test takes place on August 3, when Mogi das Cruzes face Bauru in the Paulista Championship, at 7.30pm, away from home.
Shamell Jermaine Stallworth is a Brazilian-American professional basketball player who has played for São Paulo in the NBB. He was born in Fresno, California, and studied at the University of San Francisco, where he was a four-year starter and played in 66 of 112 games, averaging 9.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
Shamell had a great career in European competitions after his university career, playing for teams in Turkey, Greece and Italy. His destiny, however, finally brought him to Brazil in 2008, where he built an excellent career with teams such as Pinheiros, Flamengo and São Paulo.
