Inter Milan are standing firm on their £51 million (€60 million) price tag for goalkeeper Andre, while Manchester United are stepping up their efforts to secure his signature.
Despite the positive negotiations underway, a compromise on the transfer fee and structure would need to be reached for the deal to be completed.
All parties involved are eager to finalize the move, after United’s initial offer of £38.5 million (€45 million) was turned down. Sources close to Onana believe that there is a shared desire to reach a resolution before the player reports for Inter’s pre-season training on July 13.
Onana has expressed his intention to join Old Trafford and reunite with his former Ajax coach Erik ten Hag, who is chasing the 27-year-old goalkeeper. The obstacle in the negotiations has been compounded by the fact that United have announced the departure of David de Gea, which means that Inter now own all the stars and now want the deal to be completed under any circumstances.
“The announcement of David de Gea’s departure could have come at a better time for Manchester United. Now, with the team desperate to find a number one alternative, Inter are in a position of strength and have decided not to be flexible in their asking price. If it hadn’t been for the announcement, the Nerazzurri might have given in.” said journalist Dharmesh Seth.
In light of David De Gea’s departure from the club, United are actively exploring the signing of Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki from Urawa Red Diamonds. The club intends to generate funds by laying off players this summer, with midfielder Fred attracting interest from Fulham in the final year of his contract.
In the event of departures, United will look to strengthen in their respective positions, with Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat among the midfielders under consideration by the Red Devils.
Meanwhile, negotiations between Manchester United and Atalanta for striker Rasmus Hojlund are ongoing. Although there is still a gap in the valuation, United remains hopeful that an agreement can be reached. Encouraging signs from Hojlund indicate the player’s desire to join Old Trafford, and there is hope that a deal can be agreed this summer.
