The Brazilian-Australian duo of Marcelo Melo and John Peers, ranked 16th, showed their dominance in the second round of the men’s doubles at Wimbledon. They beat French pair Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul convincingly, securing a straight sets victory with a score of 6-3 and 6-2.
Both teams showed off their serving skills, registering two aces each and very few double faults. Melo and Peers had a slightly higher first serve percentage than Doumbia and Reboul, which contributed to their impressive 86% first serve winning percentage. The Brazilian-Australian pair also excelled in their second serves, winning 77% of these points.
Melo and Peers proved more efficient at converting break points, winning three out of four opportunities, while their opponents failed to convert any of their break point chances.
In terms of reception, Doumbia and Reboul struggled to find answers to Melo and Peers’ serves, winning just six reception points during the match.
In total, Melo and Peers collected 59 points, while Doumbia and Reboul scored 36. The Brazilian-Australian duo have won 12 games, including a record of three consecutive games won and five consecutive points.
In the service department, Melo and Peers won 35 service points, slightly beating Doumbia and Reboul’s 30. They were also victorious in nine service games.
Croatian pair Mate Pavic and Nikola Mektic, ranked 9th, showed their prowess in the second round of the men’s doubles at Wimbledon. They emerged victorious in a very tight match against the Portuguese-Brazilian duo ofRafael Matos and Francisco Cabral, winning in straight sets 7-5, 7-6.
Both teams showed off their serving skills, with Pavic and Mektic registering two aces and one double fault, while Matos and Cabral had six aces and five double faults. Despite their opponents’ higher number of aces, Pavic and Mektic had a higher winning percentage on both their first and second serves, which ultimately contributed to their success.
Break point opportunities were hotly contested, with Pavic and Mektic converting two of seven chances, while Matos and Cabral managed to convert one of five. The Croatian duo showed strength in their return game, winning 35 reception points compared to their opponents’ 20.
