Vasco da Gama, one of Brazil’s most renowned soccer clubs, appear to be closing in on a significant acquisition in their search for a top-level midfielder. Advanced negotiations are currently underway between Vasco and Sevilla defensive midfielder Fernando. The player, who has a contract until June 30 next year, has expressed his desire to return to his home country.
The proposal presented by Vasco received positive feedback from Fernando, mainly due to the club’s ambitious sporting project. The midfielder is motivated by the prospect of becoming one of the pillars of a team that is going through a rebuilding phase. Fernando was recently successful in winning the Europa League for the third time in his career, twice with Sevilla and once with Porto.
Vasco consider the acquisition of Fernando a priority due to his winning mentality and vast international experience. Throughout his career, the defensive midfielder has represented renowned clubs such as Manchester City, Galatasaray, Porto and, most recently, Sevilla. In each of those spells, he was always a starter and contributed to the league victories. In the previous season alone, Fernando made 36 appearances, seven of them as a substitute.
Despite his illustrious journey abroad, Fernando’s experience in Brazilian soccer was limited to his early days at Vila Nova-GO, the club that discovered and nurtured his talent until 2007. As well as signing Fernando, Vasco also plan to strengthen their squad with a defender and a creative midfielder.
The club has already made an offer for Southampton striker Lyanco and is currently awaiting a response from the English side. Although the pursuit of Lanzini is considered a more distant aspiration, Vasco remain hopeful that the dream can become a reality. As negotiations progress, fans are eagerly awaiting official confirmation of Fernando’s arrival, which could significantly strengthen Vasco’s squad for next season.
