In front of a packed Sabiazinho Gymnasium in Uberlândia (MG), Praia Clube won the women’s volleyball Super League title by beating Minas 3 sets to 0 (25/22, 25/22 and 26/24). After three runner-up finishes, this is the team’s second title, repeating the success of the 2017/2018 season.
The team was the best in the first round by a significant margin and made a great comeback from the semi-final. That’s why they had the advantage of playing the final at home.
In the first set, Praia Clube took off and even opened up an 18-10 lead. However, Minas recovered, partly thanks to a great performance from Yonkaira Peña, and tied the score at 22-22. Despite this, Praia Clube managed to win the set 25-22. The second set was much more balanced, with the teams alternating in the lead. However, Praia Clube won the set in the final stretch, again by 25-22, thanks to their efficient blocking.
In the third and final set, Praia Clube took control of the scoreboard from the start and even had a four-point lead for much of the set. However, Minas didn’t give up easily and turned the score from 13-8 against to 16-15 in their favour. Praia Clube showed their strength and managed to get back into the lead. After the “go to two”, they won 26-24.
Praia Clube’s long-awaited victory was well-deserved, and they finally managed to lift the trophy. The atmosphere in the Sabiazinho Gymnasium was electric, and the Praia Clube players and fans celebrated the historic victory.
