Daniil Medvedev maintained his unblemished record in the US Open quarter-finals on Wednesday by beating his long-time friend Andrey Rublev 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 to secure his fourth semi-final appearance in New York. Medvedev, the 27-year-old Russian, is seeking his second Grand Slam title, having previously won at Flushing Meadows in 2021. Remarkably, he earned a place in the Nitto ATP Finals after his fourth round win over Alex de Minaur.

On the other hand, Andrey Rublev’s quest for his first major semi-final continues. Despite being a 14-time champion at tour level, he has faced disappointment in the quarter-finals nine times, with four of those occasions taking place in New York (in 2017, 2020, 2022 and 2023).

Carlos Alcaraz, the number one seed, is getting closer to successfully defending his US Open title, securing a place in the semi-finals with a powerful performance. He defeated German top seed Alexander Zverev 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 in an intense quarter-final on Wednesday night in New York.

With aspirations of achieving the prestigious Wimbledon-US Open double in the same season, 20-year-old Alcaraz is now just two wins away from that incredible feat. In the semi-finals, he will face 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev. The possibility of a final showdown between the No. 1 seed and Alcaraz, currently ranked No. 2, with Novak Djokovic remains an exciting prospect, who is expected to face fellow countryman Ben Shelton in the other semi-final match.

Meanwhile, 17th seed Madison Keys booked her place in the US Open semi-finals for the third time by beating ninth seed and Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova 6-1, 6-4 in the quarter-finals.
In the women’s doubles event, eighth-ranked duo Hsieh Su-Wei and Wang Xinyu extended their impressive run of 10 consecutive team victories in Grand Slam tournaments. They reached this milestone by beating the team of Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula, seeded third, 7-6(3), 3-6, 6-4, thus securing their place in the US Open semi-finals.
In another match, the twelfth-seeded duo of Siegemund and Zvonareva faced a grueling three-hour battle on Wednesday and emerged victorious. They beat Madrid champions Victoria Azarenka and Beatriz Haddad Maia 5-7, 7-5, 6-4. To reach the final, they will have to battle it out with the Stephanie/Brady duo. Good luck to Brazil’s last representative in the tournament!
