Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount is unlikely to take part in any more games before the upcoming international break due to a minor injury sustained during Saturday’s defeat against Tottenham. The £55 million signing had an ineffective game in north London,
when Manchester United were beaten 2-0.
.
He was substituted in the 85th minute, with Facundo Pellistri taking his place on the pitch. Although Mount showed no sign of injury as he left the field, the club confirmed his absence from the next home game against Nottingham Forest, scheduled for this Saturday.
Unfortunately, the club predicts that Mount will only play again after the international break, which means he will also miss a crucial match against Arsenal on September 3.
A brief statement from United read: “Mason Mount is expected to miss Saturday’s game against Nottingham Forest due to an injury sustained in last weekend’s game against Tottenham Hotspur. The minor complaint is expected to keep Mount out until the international break next month.“
Despite having faced some challenges since his move to Old Trafford, Mason Mount’s absence would be a substantial blow to Erik ten Hag’s side. Manchester United’s midfield was constantly exposed in their opening two games of the new season, against Wolves and Spurs. Ten Hag has limited options in central midfield after Fred left the club, loanee Marcel Sabitzer wasn’t kept on and Kobbie Mainoo is still sidelined through injury.
Consequently, Mount’s unavailability will probably lead Manchester United to reshape their midfield configuration. Scott McTominay, who has been linked with a possible departure, could be called up to give Casemiro more support in the midfield role.
