The legendary Brazilian footballer Cafu is going through a difficult time due to a series of financial problems. The two-time World Cup winner, widely recognized as one of the best right-backs to ever play the game, is on the verge of bankruptcy.
Cafu himself denied that he is bankrupt, but admitted that he has some money problems, which is why his mansion, valued at R$27.4 million, will be auctioned on September 6.
The São Paulo Court of Justice (TJ-SP) decided last week to put Cafu’s mansion up for auction due to non-payment of debts.
However, the 53-year-old denied that he will not be forced out of his home before the next auction and also insisted that he is not yet bankrupt.
During an interview with the program “Domingo Espetacular”, Cafu spoke about how he suffered surprising financial losses and is now almost bankrupt.
“I went to help a big businessman here in São Paulo. I lent my image, I lent some things, and that ended up generating this debt because I trusted that person“, revealed the legendary footballer.
Although Cafu preferred not to reveal the name of the person involved, it is estimated that the former AC Milan and AS Roma player incurred a debt of R$11 million in 2022. Several lawsuits were filed against the footballer, with one prominent name among them, Vob Cred Securitizadora S/A, owned by Valentim Osmar Barbizan.
“I have this debt problem, but it will be resolved. With my sweat, my work and my dedication, we will solve this. The most important thing is that you know how to turn things around“, added Cafu.
According to reports, the minimum bid for the auction of Cafu’s property will be R$10 million, which represents less than 50% of the estimated value of R$27.4 million. The mansion was mortgaged as collateral for a loan taken out by the company Capi-Penta International Football Player LTDA, owned by Cafu and his ex-wife Regina Feliciano.
