Al-Hilal, from the Saudi Pro League, are preparing to embark on an ambitious venture: securing the signature of Brazilian soccer star Neymar, who currently plays for Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain. As reported by Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato, Al-Hilal are trying to start talks with the player by sending a delegation of negotiators.
Lionel Messi’s departure from the Parc des Princes at the start of the summer may have been the catalyst, prompting 31-year-old Neymar to consider leaving the Parisian club during this transfer window. However, Neymar’s father denied any such intentions. A recent report, contradictorily, also suggests that the club no longer includes him in its future plans.
With Al-Hilal showing great interest in the sometimes injury-prone phenomenon, the likelihood of Neymar saying goodbye to Ligue 1 after six years has increased considerably. Renowned for their unwavering determination and substantial financial resources, Saudi clubs made a big impact on the summer transfer market by securing some of the best players on the market.
Jorge Jesus’ side are still searching for a star striker, having faced stiff competition from Lionel Messi and Neymar’s long-time strike partner Kylian Mbappé. The latter turned down a lucrative offer from Al-Hilal at the end of July – a decision that could leave him despondent, especially in light of PSG’s recent legal actions against him last Tuesday.
However, Neymar may prove more receptive to persuasion than the 24-year-old French prodigy, who is firm in his desire to join the formidable ranks of Real Madrid, La Liga’s biggest rivals, regardless of the associated expense.
Neymar’s reputation with the PSG Ultras has been in decline for some time and his recurring periods of inactivity continue to cause frustration with the club’s president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
