Botafogo, one of Brazil’s most important soccer clubs, have announced that their main striker, Tiquinho Soares, has picked up an injury. According to the club, Soares suffered an injury to the medial collateral ligament in his left knee during a recent match against
Cruzeiro in the Brazilian Championship on Sunday, August 6th.
. This injury will require him to miss the next few games while he recovers, which will take around five weeks.
Tiquinho Soares’ departure will certainly be felt on the pitch, as he is Botafogo’s top scorer this season, with an incredible 20 goals (13 in the league, 5 in the Copa do Brasil and 2 in the Copa Sudamericana). The injury occurred during the match against Cruzeiro and, after a thorough investigation on Monday, the club’s doctors determined that surgery would not be necessary for Soares’ recovery.
The player moved to Vitória de Guimares in 2016, where he continued to thrive. In his debut season, he scored 20 goals in 35 games, helping the club finish third in the Primeira Liga. Throughout the 2017-18 season, he maintained his high level of performance, scoring 19 goals in 34 games.
In 2018, Soares moved to Porto, which marked an important turning point in his career. The striker was instrumental in Porto winning two league titles, scoring 25 goals in 58 games. In 2018, he won the Portuguese Cup and the Cândido de Oliveira Super Cup, as well as the Portuguese Cup.
Soares then analyzed the prospects of soccer in China and ended up signing with Tianjin TEDA in 2020. There, he scored 10 goals in 25 games. In 2021, he moved to Greece and joined Olympiacos, eventually winning the Super League Greece title in 2022.
Soares returned to Botafogo after his return to Brazil in August 2022, restarting his national career. During the current 2022-23 season, he has scored six goals in 14 games for the club.
Soares’ footballing ability is well documented, as can be seen from his imposing physique, power and exceptional talent for finishing. He excels in aerial situations and set-pieces and shows versatility as a player who can play as a central striker or on the wings. He made 11 appearances for the national team and scored two goals as a member of the Brazilian team that won the Copa America in 2019.
