Former Internacional coach Mano Menezes explained his future plans in an interview. After recently leaving Internacional, the experienced coach is now without a club and has openly revealed that he is in talks with Saudi Arabian soccer.
In an interview with CNN, Menezes spoke about his decision to leave his post at Internacional. “The time was not ripe for such a decision. In the last twelve games, we’ve only been beaten by Fluminense. However, considering Internacional’s long title drought, these results take on greater significance. Every defeat becomes a narrative of tragedy, a hunt for scapegoats” he explained.
In his speech, the coach recalled overcoming even more serious challenges in the team’s career. “We’ve been through more delicate and demanding times than this. We went through much fiercer storms and came out stronger. This conjuncture brought the promise of resurgence, very similar to the resurgence we experienced the previous year” he said thoughtfully.
Mano admitted that he was approached by Corinthians, but turned them down due to his commitment to the Rio Grande do Sul team. Mano said he believes that a person is defined by the decisions they make, especially those with a significant impact. He added that he would be solely responsible for the results of these decisions and that, in soccer, previous loyalties have a significant value. Citing the reason for his rejection of Corinthians’ offer, Menezes said that his commitment to honoring the existing contract at Internacional put him in a position where he was unable to negotiate with rivals, a decision he stands by despite recent events.
“It was a question of honoring my contract with Internacional. These decisions define our narrative. Internacional also followed its convictions, a narrative that history records and for which we are responsible“, concluded Menezes.
