According to several media sites on Friday (August 4), the Los Angeles Lakers have reached an agreement with their best player, Anthony Davis, on a three-year contract worth US$186 million. The 30-year-old forward, an eight-time All-Star, has two seasons remaining on his initial five-year, $190 million contract and, with this extension, he will remain with the Lakers until the 2027-28 NBA season.
Davis has been considered a cornerstone of the franchise since he played a key role in helping the Lakers win their 17th NBA title in 2020. However, concerns have been raised about his long-term future in Los Angeles, especially as LeBron James nears the end of his contract. Davis’ devotion to the Lakers was confirmed with this contract extension.
Last season, Anthony Davis demonstrated his exceptional skills, averaging 25.9 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists, as well as shooting 56.3% from the field, a career record. Despite some injury concerns, Davis has been an important component of the Los Angeles Lakers’ success alongside LeBron James.
When asked about the team’s ambitions, Davis said: “Obviously, the goal is to win championships, and we wanted not just to knock on the door, but to actually succeed, to get through the door.” That’s our goal“.
With 11 seasons in the NBA, Davis has continually demonstrated his greatness, averaging 24 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.31 blocks and 1.34 steals per game. He continued to dazzle in the post-season, averaging 25.9 points, 11.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists, while shooting an incredible 53.3% from the field in 55 playoff games.
Anthony Davis, who is 2.08 m tall and weighs 115 kg, is known for his quickness, versatility and ability to block shots. He has twice been crowned NBA block champion and is one of only three players in league history to average at least two blocks per game in five consecutive seasons.
In addition to his defensive prowess, Davis is an excellent scorer, averaging more than 25 points per game in four of his eight seasons in the NBA. His ability to score from various points on the court, including the perimeter, the middle and the interior, makes him a dangerous offensive threat.
