All eyes are on Kentucky’s 7-foot forward Aaron Bradshaw as the 2024 NBA draft approaches. This imposing freshman was built for the contemporary NBA and is expected to be one of the best power forwards in the next recruiting class. Despite being 20 years old and older than most of the freshmen, Bradshaw’s enormous talent classifies him as a clear first-round possibility.
Bradshaw’s exceptional physical characteristics, especially his incredibly long arms, give him a remarkable catch radius on the court. He’s a continuous lob threat, which makes him an excellent partner for talented players. The skilled big man shines as a pick-and-roll double screen threat, demonstrating the ability to roll to the basket or step out for a three-point shot. However, Bradshaw shines most in the paint, where he confidently dunks everything near the rim.
One of the most impressive features of Bradshaw’s game is his smooth jumping, which is surprising for a player of his height. Although he can spread the floor and hit triples, it remains to be seen whether he will be able to fully unleash that talent within Kentucky’s system. However, considering his excellent free-throw efficiency and fluid mechanics, NBA scouts are excited about his future in shooting.
Despite his extraordinary abilities, Bradshaw is still a work in progress. For a player of his size, his handling skills are rather restricted and his post-ball elegance needs to be improved. Adding more post moves can take your game to a whole new level. He sometimes has a tendency to favor outside shots, which is not a significant concern, but analysts think that maximizing his inside presence would increase his effect on the floor. At the moment, he’s more of a finisher, but he has the ability to become a real attacking center back.
Bradshaw’s mobility in defense sets him apart from other players of his stature. At the next level, his ability to handle multiple pick-and-roll coverages makes him a tremendous asset on defense. Among the top five candidates, Bradshaw stands out as the best inside linebacker. His height, length and defensive instincts combine to make him an excellent rim protector. Experts praise his initial ability to defend the rim effectively, but his ability to avoid foul trouble will be key to his success.
Bradshaw’s strength is an area in which he can improve. He needs to bulk up to withstand the physical demands of the NBA power forward position, despite weighing just 60 kg. Due to his youth, he is expected to gain muscle and weight while at Kentucky, which will allow him to be more competitive on the boards and play a more physical style.
By joining the Kentucky Wildcats, he will have a real chance to be a unique player, showcasing his skills among potential NBA prospects such as DJ Wagner, Justin Edwards, Zvonimir Ivisic and Robert Dillingham. Although there are fears that a foot problem could keep Bradshaw out for the start of the season, there is strong optimism that he will make a full recovery and make a big impact at Kentucky.
