The NBA has imposed a two-game ban without pay on San Antonio Spurs player Devonte’ Graham following his guilty plea to drunk driving. The NBA announced Graham’s ban on Tuesday, indicating that it would take effect during the next NBA regular season game in which he was eligible and able to play.
The event in question took place in July 2022, when Graham was pulled over in Raleigh, North Carolina, for speeding. According to court documents, he was driving 63 mph in a 40 mph zone and was found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.11, which was more than the state’s legal limit of 0.08. As a result, he was sentenced to one year of unsupervised probation.
The 27-year-old point guard spent five seasons in the NBA. He began his professional career with the New Orleans Pelicans before being transferred to the San Antonio Spurs. During his time with the Pelicans, he made an incredible 61-foot shot to win the game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Graham impressed the Spurs last season, averaging 13 points and four assists in 20 games.
Graham played college basketball at the University of Kansas before joining the NBA, where he was twice chosen for the All-Big 12 Conference. He was selected in the second round of the 2018 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks, but was traded to the Charlotte Hornets on the night of the draft. Graham had a career season with the Hornets in 2019-20, averaging 18.7 points and 7.5 assists per game, which earned him a spot on the All-NBA Third Team and the Hornets’ Most Valuable Player award. He was later transferred to the New Orleans Pelicans in 2021, before joining the San Antonio Spurs in 2022 with an annual contract of US$11 million.
Graham is known for his excellent shooting skills, both from three-point range and mid-range. In the 2019-20 season, he had the highest three-point shooting percentage of any NBA point guard, with 35.2%. He also showed his skills as a skilled ball handler and playmaker, averaging 7.5 assists per game in the same season. Despite being a solid defender, his modest size for a playmaker is offset by his speed and athleticism.
Graham has had several outstanding performances throughout his career, including scoring a career-high 40 points against the Brooklyn Nets in 2020 and hitting 10 three-pointers against the Golden State Warriors in the same year.
As you can see, the player has talent. You just need to draw the right conclusions from your behavior and not miss out on the chance to achieve the greatest achievements in basketball.
