Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou expressed his satisfaction with the performance of striker Richarlison, praising the Brazilian’s attributes after he scored a hat-trick in a pre-season match against Lion City Sailors. The friendly, which was an away game for the 2019 Champions League finalists, ended in a convincing 5-1 victory, bringing their successful tour of Asia to a close.
The Sailors went ahead early on with a goal from Shawal Anuar in the 14th minute, but Harry Kane, Spurs’ star striker, restored equality on the scoreboard after shooting from 12 meters before the end of the first half. In the second half, Postecoglou made 11 changes, and Richarlison’s entry was key. The Brazilian made a quick impact, scoring twice in eight minutes and then adding a third in added time to secure his first hat-trick for the team.
Richarlison’s performance left a strong impression on Postecoglou, who praised the striker’s qualities as an ideal fit for his team. The Brazilian joined Tottenham from Everton last summer for a fee of £60 million and has since contributed three goals in 35 appearances for the club.
“He’s always in the right areas. I have a lot of affection for him and he’s one of the players I’m looking forward to working with. You try to imagine your players playing the soccer you want to play and I certainly think he can,” said the coach.
The win in Singapore was Postecoglou’s first since taking over at Tottenham after a productive spell at Celtic. In their opening pre-season game in Perth, they were beaten by West Ham. The Londoners’ planned match against Leicester City in Bangkok was canceled due to a waterlogged pitch.
Postecoglou’s side will now return to White Hart Lane to face Shakhtar Donetsk on August 6, looking to build on the positive momentum of their victory in Singapore. Richarlison’s performance, in particular, gave the coach a glimpse of his ability in attack, and fans will be eagerly awaiting his contributions next season.
