After negotiations to sign De La Cruz broke down following River Plate’s qualification, Flamengo wasted no time in identifying a new target for the coveted role of attacking midfielder. The team is now looking at Claudinho from Zenit. Talks between Flamengo, Claudinho’s representatives and the Russian club are already underway, seeking the best deal for all parties involved.
Claudinho has been a long-time target of Flamengo, after receiving a lot of praise from Jorge Sampaoli. With his breakneck speed, lethal right foot and versatility in midfield, Claudinho has caught the eye of Flamengo, who are interested in signing him. The news was first reported by Mauro Cesar and later confirmed by several media outlets. Claudinho’s contract with Zenit runs until 2027, and Flamengo are fully aware of the financial implications involved in securing his transfer. There is a constant channel of communication between the parties involved, and the platform that Flamengo can offer, especially in terms of exposure to the Brazilian national team, serves as a convincing incentive.
So far in this transfer window, Flamengo have announced the acquisition of two reinforcements: goalkeeper Augustín Rossi and striker Luiz Araújo. In addition, an agreement has been reached with Atlético-MG midfielder Allan, with only the finalization of details remaining, due to the player’s previous links with various clubs.
Claudinho, who came up through the youth ranks at Corinthians, has played for several clubs in the interior of São Paulo, including Santo André, Ponte Preta and Oeste. His career then took him to Bragantino, where he excelled and ended up moving to Zenit. Last season, Claudinho showed his talent in 23 matches, scoring five goals and providing 11 assists. According to reports, the deal is imminent and the player is interested in the move. A final agreement could be reached in the near future, and the official announcement should follow.
