Vasco da Gama, one of Brazil’s most prestigious sports organizations, announced the long-awaited return of its basketball team in an exciting announcement. The club’s representatives revealed their ambitions to compete in the upcoming 2023/2024 Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB) season, arousing the enthusiasm of dedicated followers and rekindling the grandeur of the club’s illustrious sporting history.
Unfortunately, the president of Vasco da Gama, Jorge Salgado, was unable to attend the historic occasion due to prior commitments. However, the 1st vice-president, Carlos Roberto Osório, took over and was joined by personalities such as Marcel Kaskus, vice-president of Olympic and Paralympic Sports, Pedro Ortega, director of Basketball, Carlos Alexandre, commercial director of Basketball, Carlos Magno Barros and Gegê Chaia, general coordinator of Basketball.
The occasion was an opportunity to express the resurrection of Vasco basketball to its passionate followers, emphasizing the sport’s great legacy in Brazil. Osório was happy to reflect on Vasco’s historical importance as a sports club, founded 125 years ago as the Club de Regatas. The foundation of Vasco da Gama provided a platform for those who wanted to play sports, and the club’s return to basketball demonstrates the continuity of this history.
Osório also highlighted Vasco’s extraordinary successes in Olympic sports, highlighting the club’s record as Brazil’s first two-time Olympic champion. In addition, Vasco da Gama has the distinction of having provided the country with the largest number of Olympic medals, having won several championships as Brazilian and South American champions. His participation in prominent international competitions contributes to Vasco’s illustrious athletic legacy.
Vasco’s basketball project, in particular, is a model of self-sufficiency. The Cruz-Maltino’s commitment to restoring the club’s sporting heritage has gained financial and sponsorship support. This financial support allows the team, now known as “R10 Score Vasco da Gama”, to move forward with confidence and represent the club with pride. The name respects the organization’s great heritage while embracing its bright future.
As Vasco da Gama’s basketball team prepares for a successful return to the NBB, fans are anxiously awaiting the revitalization of their favorite club’s basketball heritage. Vasco da Gama hopes to leave a lasting impact on the Brazilian basketball scene with a dedication to self-sufficiency, a great sporting legacy and a tireless fan base.
