The Gunners faltered after taking a big lead

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed his disappointment at failing to win what should have been an easy title in the 2022/23 Premier League season. The Spaniard, who has led the north London side to a fantastic transformation over the last four years, has been in pole position to take home the Premier League trophy for most of the season. However, in a capitulation of epic proportions, the Gunners squandered their considerable lead at the top of the table to Manchester City, who on Saturday claimed their fourth Premier League win in five seasons.
“I can’t think about it now. We have to congratulate the City” Arteta told BBC Match of the Day. It’s been an incredible journey for us over 10 months competing with City, being ahead of them for so long. We learned enormous lessons. We’ve changed a lot of things in this club. We’ve made great strides, but the icing on the cake is winning a championship and we haven’t managed it.” Arteta said after his team’s defeat to Nottingham Forest, which confirmed Manchester City as champions.
Arsenal occupied first place for 234 days of the season, a record for a team that didn’t win the trophy. At the time of the resumption of the league season after the World Cup, Arsenal had an eight-point lead over their closest rivals, Manchester City, but a series of unfavorable results, which included draws with Southampton, Brentford and West Ham, and defeats to Everton and Manchester City, meant that their lead narrowed. To make matters worse, Manchester City managed to establish a remarkable 23-game unbeaten run, which ended up crowning them champions once again.
Arteta admitted that it wasn’t easy to falter after being in such a strong position, but added that Arsenal had made a lot of progress and that the players needed to keep up the good work. He said that the league title would be their goal and that they would work hard to try to win the league next season.
