Brazilian Vinicius Jr. was the target of a series of racist insults from Valencia fans during Real Madrid’s last La Liga match. In addition to the spectators, it is also alleged that some of Valencia’s own players hurled racist insults at the Brazilian player, who expressed his disappointment at the sad state of La Liga.
To make matters worse, Vinicius was also sent off at the end of the game after an argument with Spanish striker Duro. Vinicius fell out with the Valencia players during stoppage time, resulting in a heated conversation. The situation apparently escalated and threatened to become physical when Vinicius pushed the striker. He didn’t receive a red card on the pitch, but the VAR decided to take a look at the incident and sent the Brazilian off.
“The championship that once belonged to Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cristiano and Messi now belongs to racists. Racism is normal in La Liga. The competition thinks it’s normal, the federation does too and the opponents encourage it. A beautiful nation, which welcomed me and which I love, but which agreed to export the image of a racist country to the world. I’m sorry for the Spaniards who don’t agree, but today, in Brazil, Spain is known as a country of racists. And unfortunately, I have no defense for everything that happens every week. I agree. But I’m strong and I’ll go all the way against the racists. Even if it’s far from here“, posted Vinicius, disappointed, on Instagram.
The Brazilian also went after Javier Tebas, claiming that instead of taking measures to curb racial abuse in the league, the president actually attacked him personally. However, Tebas hit back by saying that he had made numerous attempts to stop racist behavior, against any player in the league within the limits of the rules. Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti didn’t like the incident either and expressed his extreme disappointment, claiming that “the whole stadium” was chanting racist insults. Although there have been reports that Vinicius is considering leaving Real Madrid, sources close to the club have made reassuring statements to the contrary.
