The Golden State Warriors have reportedly offered their current general manager, Bob Myers, a contract extension that would make him the highest paid general manager in the NBA. Myers’ current contract with the Warriors is set to expire on June 30 and, according to inside sources, club owner Joe Lacob has already presented possible contract extensions to keep Myers among the league’s highest-paid executives.
Myers, on the other hand, seems unsure about his future in the organization. According to sources, there have been no significant contract extension negotiations in recent months, raising the prospect that Myers could leave the Warriors this summer. According to NBA sources, if he stays, his next contract could be worth more than $10 million per season.
Myers raised doubts about staying with the Warriors during a recent appearance on 95.7 The Game. He passed on a piece of wisdom he had received, saying: “Someone wiser than me once told me a long time ago: ‘Don’t make a decision unless it’s absolutely necessary. This shows that Myers is carefully analyzing his options and considering things other than money.
Myers’ loyalty to his family is an element that could affect his choice. With three young daughters and a reputation as a loyal family man, there is a feeling that if he chooses to leave the Warriors, it will be to prioritize spending more time with his loved ones and taking time off from the daily obligations of his arduous profession.
Myers has been with the Warriors since 2012, serving as general manager and president of basketball operations. He was instrumental in forming the team’s dynasty, which won four NBA titles between 2015 and 2018.
If Myers decides to leave the Warriors, the club will have the task of adapting to life without him. The organization could have a busy summer, as it must also decide on Draymond Green’s player option and the possible negotiation of a maximum contract for Klay Thompson, who had a good second half of the regular season, from 2022-23.
Warriors fans are anxiously awaiting Myers’ decision as he ponders his future, hoping that he chooses to remain with the organization and contribute to its success, both on and off the court.
