In a significant move, Brazilian soccer club Flamengo has officially announced a deal to sign Atlanta United striker Luiz Araújo. The contract, which will begin on July 1, will run for an impressive four and a half years, until December 31, 2027.
Flamengo, also known as Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, confirmed the deal via a club statement, revealing that the 26-year-old right-back will undergo medical examinations as part of the process.
To secure Luiz Araújo’s arrival, Flamengo committed to a transfer fee of €9 million (approximately R$48 million). Interestingly, this figure is slightly less than what Atlanta United paid to acquire the full-back from Lille in 2021. At the time, the Major League Soccer (MLS) club invested 10.91 million euros to secure his services.
Luiz Araújo, a left-footed player who plays predominantly at right-back, perfectly fits the profile desired by Flamengo coach Jorge Sampaoli. The talented Brazilian stood out as one of Atlanta United’s highlights, becoming the team’s second most valuable player.
Luiz Araújo currently receives a monthly salary of around R$1.6 million. It’s worth noting that he agreed to a pay cut in order to finalize the deal with Flamengo. This puts his earnings on a par with renowned Flamengo striker Gabigol.
Flamengo’s acquisition of Luiz Araújo promises to add more firepower to their already formidable attacking team, solidifying their ambitions for future success at both national and international level.
