Following Kylian Mbappe’s bombshell statement that he will not extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain beyond 2024, links with Real Madrid have begun to gather momentum again. The interest of La Liga giants in signing Mbappe is no secret; he came close to joining the Santiago Bernabéu last year before turning around and signing a contract extension for 2+1 years. The only problem is that the 24-year-old is unwilling to activate the additional one-year option he has in his current contract, which would see Mbappe remain at the Parc des Prince until the summer of 2025.
According to L’Equipe, Madrid are willing to spend up to 200 million euros to sign the PSG star. The Spanish club are waiting for the player to force through his transfer or for PSG to put Mbappe on the transfer market.
Following the departure of Karim Benzema to Al-Ittihad, Madrid urgently need to sign a new center forward. Players like Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Chelsea’s Kai Havertz were mentioned, but Mbappe’s sensational move to send an official letter to the club informing them of his desire not to extend his current contract was a major turning point.
Recently, a video went viral showing Madrid president Florentino Perez talking to a fan who questioned the veteran about the possibility of signing the Frech striker. Perez said:“Yes, but not this summer“.
Real Madrid’s interest in Mbappe remains evident, and they seem to be the favorites to secure his signature, but it’s not likely to be a simple saga.
Following the World Cup winner’s transfer to PSG, the Ligue 1 giants are furious with the player, and their ultimatum is that Kylian must sign a new contract this summer or he will be sold. The club doesn’t want to risk losing one of the world’s greatest talents on a free transfer.
Following the news that Kylian Mbappe is likely to be sold in the summer, rumors of a transfer to Real Madrid have also intensified. However, the Frenchman insisted that he will fulfill his current contract in Paris, where he is “very happy”.
Reacting to a tweet from “L’Equipe” about Madrid’s interest in Mbappe, the player hit back and replied: “LIES… At the same time, the bigger it is, the more it passes. I’ve already said that I’ll continue next season at PSG, where I’m very happy“.
In a separate interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Monaco midfielder clarified that he hadn’t asked the club for a transfer, he just wanted to inform them of his decision not to extend his contract beyond 2024.
“I haven’t asked to leave PSG or go to Real Madrid, I’ve just told the club that I’m not going to activate the option to extend my contract until June 2025. We never discussed a new deal with PSG, but I’m happy to stay here next season“, Mbappe told the Italian media.
Even though PSG’s record scorer has denied the possibility of joining Madrid this summer, he only has two options: either he can extend his contract this summer, or he will be sold, the French giants not wanting to risk losing their star striker on a free transfer.
