Legendary center forward Luis Suárez has dismissed reports of a possible reunion with former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi at MLS club Inter Miami, saying that he currently has no plans to move from Brazil. Suárez said that he is extremely happy at his current club, Grêmio, and that he would like to stay with the team for as long as possible. Suárez was asked if he was thinking of moving to the United States after Lionel Messi’s move to Miami, but the Uruguayan replied in the negative.
It’s only three months since Suárez arrived at Grêmio. The 36-year-old spent some time at Nacional, his boyhood club, for a short period before the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He took part in the main event, albeit without much success, before moving to Gremio in March. Suárez responded to questions about his future and the possibility of a move to the MLS by saying that, although the future remains uncertain, he has a contract with Gremio until 2024 and, for the moment, intends to complete his term.
“These rumors are not true. The truth is that I’m a Gremio player and I have a contract until 2024. I’m very happy to be here, and a move to Miami at the moment is impossible.” said Suárez during the interview.
There have been several reports linking the former Liverpool striker with Inter Miami, as the possibility of bringing together players such as Messi, Sergio Busquets and Suarez has been mooted. Busquets left Barcelona very recently, after a long period, and has not yet decided on his future plans. Now that Lionel Messi has announced that he is joining Inter Miami, several players are being linked to them.
Suárez left Barcelona at the end of the 2019/20 season to join Atlético Madrid, where he led them to the league title. He then became a substitute, before leaving Atlético to join Nacional. Suarez is now at Gremio and, according to his own words, should remain at the club for the foreseeable future at least.
