After Kylian Mbappe signed a contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain, apparently ending his links with Real Madrid, the French striker has dropped another bombshell.
According to reports, Mbappe has sent a letter to PSG informing them that he will not trigger the clause to extend his stay at the Parc des Princes beyond the summer of 2024, so he is likely to become a free agent next year.
The Ligue 1 giants are said to be furious and have no plans to allow Kylian to leave on a free transfer, meaning he could be sold this summer.
According to reports, Mbappe’s current contract had a clause with an extension on the player’s side that would extend his stay until the summer of 2025.
After months of negotiations over a contract extension, the striker informed the club in a formal letter that he will not be extending his current contract, which expires in 12 months.
PSG’s record scorer could therefore agree a pre-contract with teams outside France in January, and that’s what the club wants to avoid by allowing one of the best players in the world to leave for free; that’s why the Parisians could let Kylian leave this summer.
There are also reports that Mbappe’s letter was also leaked to the media, which infuriated the Parc des Princes managers. Real Madrid continue to admire the talent of a generation that spurned the Spanish club to sign a contract extension with PSG.
Karim Benzema’s move to Saudi Arabia means Madrid need a proven goalscorer to lead the front line, and Mbappe could be the man to do it. Carlo Ancelotti’s team has also been linked with players like Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Chelsea’s Kai Havertz.
Earlier, a video of a fan asking Florentino Perez if he would buy Mbappe went viral on social media, with the Madrid president saying“Yes, but not this summer“.
The fact that the 2018 World Cup winner could be sold could force Madrid to reconsider their position, although this would be a blow for PSG, who have already lost Lionel Messi, who is about to join Inter Miami, while Neymar’s future also remains uncertain.
