The long-awaited Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix in 2023 should mark the sport’s return to North America. Known for its thrilling races, this year’s event promises to be no different, especially with Red Bull Racing’s unbeaten streak in full swing.
Red Bull has emerged as the dominant force this season, winning every race so far and maintaining a comfortable lead over its competitors. Defending champion Max Verstappen, who holds a 53-point lead over his teammate, is in exceptional form and ready for another strong performance.
However, the weather could play an important role in the race weekend. Formula 1 drivers could face their fourth consecutive wet race, with rain forecast for several sessions in Montreal, following the cancellation of the Emilio Romagna Grand Prix due to flooding and late rain in the Monaco race. The Spanish Grand Prix also experienced adverse weather conditions during FP3 and qualifying.
Although thunderstorms are forecast before the start of the Canadian Grand Prix, the week’s wet conditions could make for a greasy track, posing challenges for the drivers. Friday’s practice sessions are particularly uncertain, with a 35% chance of rain during FP1 and a 19% chance during FP2.
Fans can expect drama during FP3 on Saturday, with almost a 60% chance of rain in the afternoon. Qualifying, scheduled for 4pm, should also be affected by the rain, as the chances increase to 61% during the session.
Fortunately, race day is expected to be mostly sunny, with only a 22% chance of precipitation at the 2pm start time on Sunday. The temperature will be around 20ºC (68ºF) all weekend, creating ideal conditions for the race.
The usual schedule will be followed, starting with two practice sessions on Friday. FP1 will be held from 18:30 UK time, followed by FP2 at 22:00. On Saturday, FP3 is scheduled for 17:30 UK time, preceding the qualifying session at 21:00. Qualifying will determine the starting grid for the 70-lap Canadian Grand Prix, which starts at 7pm on Sunday.
With Red Bull’s dominance, unpredictable weather conditions and fierce competition for championship points, the 2023 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix promises to be an electrifying event for fans around the world.
