After missing out on the Premier League title in the recently concluded English Premier League season, Arsenal have already started planning their next campaign in the hope of starting their summer signings. Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing two young Brazilians: Flamengo’s Ayrton Lucas and Corinthians star Pedrinho. Lucas is seen by Mikel Arteta as a valuable backup for Oleksandr Zinchenko.
The Ukrainian has been an influential figure for the London side, due to Zinchenko’s ability to play as an inverted full-back. As the former Manchester City player has become the owner of the position, Kieran Tierney is being linked with Newcastle United.
If the Scotland international wants to leave the Emirates, Arteta will probably look for a replacement for Zinchenko, with Lucas seen as the ideal candidate, valued at 30 million euros.
Juventus are also keen to sign the Brazilian full-back, although they are looking for a successor to Alex Sandro, but it remains to be seen which team will be able to get Flamengo to part with the 25-year-old talent.
Another player on Arsenal’s radar is winger Pedrinho, the 17-year-old has been an influential presence at the club and his recent absence from games has generated a lot of speculation.
Also known as Pedro, the youngster was being monitored by Arsenal – which was confirmed by former player Neto during the program Os Donos da Bola.
Pedro has been absent from Corinthians’ last few games and was also due to play in the U-20 World Cup, but was denied permission by the club, which added fuel to the fire.
“You have Pedro… Pedro, I don’t know what’s going on. If the kid is going to be sold to Arsenal… I don’t know.“, said Neto in the program, confirming Arsenal’s intentions.
As the Brazilian star is still only 17, it is expected that he will be signed and loaned back to Corinthians for the remainder of his contract, and could return to the Emirates Stadium from next season when he turns 18.
