Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has expressed his preference to stay at the club unless they decide they no longer want him. The Brazilian, who has a contract with the English club until 2024, was responding to recent rumors about Fluminense’s interest in bringing him back to Brazil.
After the 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest, Silva told ESPN that he always fulfilled his contracts and would only leave Chelsea if they didn’t want him anymore or if a new manager arrived and decided he shouldn’t stay. Silva also commented on the mixed reactions he receives from fans on social media, some of whom curse him, while others express excitement at the possibility of his return to Brazil.
Thiago Silva has stated that he intends to fulfill his contract with Chelsea until next year and then re-evaluate his options. The Brazilian, who has always been close to Fluminense since leaving the club, revealed that he has a strong connection with the team and visits them regularly during his vacations.
Silva acknowledged that there are many rumors about his possible return to Brazil, but stressed that there are also many falsehoods being spread. Silva also confirmed that he spoke to Fluminense president Mário Bittencourt in January about his position, but ended up deciding to sign a contract extension with Chelsea.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, he began his career with Fluminense’s youth team (1995-2000). He returned to the club in 2006 and, in three years, helped the team win the 2007 Copa do Brasil and reach the final of the 2008 Copa Libertadores.
